1.5 Litre La Prova Aglianico Rosato 2019
La Prova Aglianico Rosato 2019
Amadio Vineyard, Kersbrook, Adelaide Hills
2019 was a warm to hot and very dry vintage, which is the ultimate test of our belief in these Italian varieties and their suitability for Australia’s climate and growing conditions. Aglianico breezed through the conditions with ease. A variety for the future for sure.
Lighter crops from crazy weather at flowering was the story for most Adelaide Hills vineyards, no exceptions here.
Again we see the usual suspects of roses, turkish delight and cherries, a soft acid, dry and textural palate with that little bit of grip on the finish that we love. Pale salmon hue in colour.
Aglianico, native to Campania in Italy, is grown here on pretty much my favourite bit of dirt at Kersbrook, in the northern Adelaide Hills. Kersbrook is one of the warmest parts of the Hills and so lends itself to these Southern Italian varieties so well.
Grown and picked early specifically to make Rosato. Its only skin contact is during the truck ride to the winery and is pressed out quickly with about 20% of the juice diverted straight off the press tray for a high solids, wild ferment component in old French oak, which adds some extra texture and the remaining to tank for a cool fermentation to capture the fine aromatics.
Bottled June 2019.
